Today in space history…from now on.

Today we remember Colonel Eileen Collins, the first Female Commander of Columbia. She led the mission to deploy the Chandra Observatory into space. This $1.5 billion X-Ray telescope was the sister telescope to the Hubble Space Telescope.

Sadly, today we also mourn the loss of another female space pioneer. Sally Ride, first woman in space, died earlier today.

Their extraordinary lives and unique missions here on earth will always be intertwined.
