Public discourse and democracy on steroids

It looks like a historic event is all but set to take place in a few short hours with the passing of health care legislation. It has been over a year since President Obama set out to overhaul the American health care system. No matter what side you are on, I think in a democracy it is good to debate and dialogue about your views against the backdrop of others’–especially in a civilized manner. It is refreshing to see so much interest in the political process. And sometimes processes can be messy. Those who are ruled should have some say in who and what takes place in the halls of those who govern. It is important and incumbent upon those of us who elect officials to hold them accountable. Right?
